Brooklyn, NY — A building in Brooklyn partially collapsed during construction, killing one worker and seriously injuring another. The fatal construction accident occurred on the roof of 227 Carlton Avenue in Fort Greene, reports the New York Daily News.

According to reports, five workers were on the roof while cement blocks were being loaded. The building apparently began to shake from being overloaded, when an I-beam collapsed and two men plummeted 40-feet through the unfinished building into the basement.

Another worker fell but managed to grab a hold of a collapsed area and hung there for several moments before pulling himself back to safety.

Responding emergency crews extricated the two men from the debris, and rushed one man who was in his 60s to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released his full name, but they are identifying him was Winston.

The second worker was taken to Kings County Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Investigations into the fatal construction accident are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating.
