Prison Transport Van Crash in Altona Injures 7

Altona, N.Y.—A two-vehicle collision involving a prison transport van and a car injured six state prisoners and a corrections officer Monday afternoon, August 20, 2012. The automobile accident occurred on Devil’s Den Road around 2:20 p.m., reports the Press-Republican.

According to reports, the impact of the crash overturned the van onto its side and the front end of the car was severely damaged. The cause of the wreck has not been released at this time.

The inmates involved in the wreck were reportedly working at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora and were returning to the Altona Correctional Facility when the accident occurred.

Everyone inside the van was injured in the wreck. The six prisoners and corrections officer were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for media treatment.

EMS ambulances from Altona, Morrisonville, Ellenburg Depot, Champlain and West Chazy all responded to the scene.

Investigations are underway.
