New York – Attorneys supporting two major financial services providers in a proposed multibillion-dollar antitrust settlement have accused a law firm representing retailers opposing the settlement of having a conflict of interest in the matter. As reported by Reuters, Constantine Cannon, which has been retained by a group of retailers fighting the $7.2 billion settlement, has been accused by an attorney for a plaintiff in the case as having a conflict of interest due to a past advisory relationship with stores involved in a venture that could be potential competitors of Visa and Mastercard.

As noted in the report, the attorneys have objected to releasing certain case documents to the firm as a result.

The $7.2 billion antitrust settlement was reportedly announced in July, and could be the largest in the history of the U.S. if approved.
