Detroit – Some luxury vehicles were shown to exhibit a poor performance in a new crash test. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a majority of mid-sized cars had poor results in a new test developed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety designed to measure frontal crash safety.

Non-luxury models are expected to be tested next using the new method, which strikes 25 percent of the front end of a vehicle at 40 miles per hour.

Toyota Motor Co., owner of the Lexus brand, is quoted by the AP as stating of the results, “With this new test, the Institute has raised the bar again and we will respond to this challenge as we design new vehicles.”
