SUV Plummets Down NYC Garage Elevator, 2 Injured

New York, NY—Two people were hurt when an SUV plunged about 40 feet down an elevator shaft in Manhattan garage. The automobile accident occurred on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at a Hertz garage at 76th Street and First Avenue, reports MyFoxNY.com.

According to reports, a parking attendant pulled the SUV into an elevator on the 5th floor, but the lift wasn’t there. The vehicle subsequently fell to the first floor and landed upside down.

The accident injured the attendant in the vehicle and another attendant in the elevator. They were taken to New York Weill-Cornell Medical Center where they are listed in stable condition.

The identities of the victims have been withheld. It is unknown what caused the lift malfunction.

An investigation is underway.
