Construction worker dies in forklift accident at hospital site

Dallas, Texas – A worker was killed Wednesday while working at the construction site for the new Parkland hospital. As reported by The Dallas Morning News, 24 year-old Michael Pishnick died after being hit by a forklift and suffering internal injuries. Pishnick was taken to the current Parkland hospital by a medical rescue worker where he was pronounced dead. Balfour Beatty Construction is the lead partner for the construction project; however, Pishnick reportedly worked for MEI Rigging and Crating.

Beatty Construction spokeswoman, Connie Oliver, is quoted in the report as stating of the accident, “It really just breaks our heart…We are clearly mourning the loss of life of an individual and a member of our team at Parkland.”

Federal occupational safety officials are reportedly investigating incident. Completion of construction for the new Parkland hospital is projected for 2014.
