Elbridge, NY — A deck collapse at a home on Route 5 sent five people to area hospitals on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The deck gave way around 8:10 p.m. at a home located at 586 Route 5, just west of the village of Elbridge, reported Syracuse.com.

According to reports, there were more than 20 people on the deck that runs along the back of the one-and-a-half story house when it collapsed on its east side—throwing people into each other. The deck was about 10 feet above the ground.

Officials believe it was too much for the structure to handle.

Responding emergency crews transported four injured people to Auburn Memorial Hospital by ambulance, while one other person was taken to Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Several others suffered minor injuries and denied medical attention.

The identities of the injured have not been released.

Investigations into the deck collapse are underway.

Fire departments from Elbridge, Mottville and Jordan, along with ambulances from Jordan and SAVES all responded to the scene.
