San Francisco, CA — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Lee Carter Co. have voluntarily recalled infant rattles for choking hazards the defective product poses to young children. The CPSC announced the nationwide product recall on January 24, 2012.

The product recall was issued after discovering that the rattle’s handle is small enough to fit into a child’s throat, which poses a choking hazard to young children. This also is a violation of the federal rattle standards.

“The recalled rattles are made out of multi-colored, woven plastic and have a bell inside. They measure about 4 1/2 inches long. ‘Made in Mexico’ and ‘Lee Carter Company’ are printed on a tag on a purple plastic loop at the end of the rattle’s handle,” reported the CPSC.

Consumers are advised to return the rattles to Lee Carter Co. for a full refund, or a credit towards another product.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers should contact Lee Carter Co. collect at (415) 824-2004 anytime, or visit www.leecartercompany.com.
