Mesa, AZ — A Skyline High School student was seriously injured when she was struck by a Mesa school bus as she was walking to school Wednesday morning, November 30, 2011. The pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Broadway and Crismon roads around 7 a.m., reported the East Valley Tribune.

Police reported that the 18-year-old female student was crossing in the crosswalk on a green light when she was hit by the school bus. The font of the bus hit the girl, which caused her to become stuck on the rear tire well of the bus.

Responding rescue crews had to extricate the student from underneath the bus, before airlifting her to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital for treatment of injuries. She was reportedly conscious and talking to first responders.

The student suffered a broken leg, a possible dislocated hip and some soft tissue damage in the school bus crash.

The identity of the student is being withheld at this time.

The school bus driver told police that he didn’t see the girl. There are no apparent signs of impairment or speed involved in the wreck.

Police stated that they expect to cite the bus driver for failure to yield at the very least, but investigations are ongoing.
