Stamford, CT — A construction worker sustained fatal injuries after falling over 50 feet from a roof at the new Chelsea Piers sports complex Tuesday afternoon, October 25, 2011. The fatal construction accident occurred on the city’s East side around 1 p.m. at the site of the former Clairol campus, reported the News Times.

Stamford police reported that 36-year-old Javier Salinas of Danbury fell 50 to 60 feet from an unfinished roof, as he was installing sheeting. Salinas fell from the roof onto the hard ground below, leaving him with fatal injuries.

According to witnesses, Salina was not wearing a safety harness as required by federal regulations.

Responding emergency crews stated that Salinas was unresponsive when they arrived at the scene.

American Buildings, a Trumbull contractor working for AP Construction, reportedly employed Salinas.

The Stamford Police Department is assisting the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the construction accident investigations.
