Utah County, UT — A train accident left two teenage girls dead and another in extremely critical condition Saturday, October 15, 2011, in Spanish Fork Canyon. Officials believe the girls were hit by two trains traveling in the opposite direction near the Covered Bridge Canyon community at around 6:30 p.m., reported Fox 13 Now.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office reported, two 15-year-old girls, Kelsea Webster and Essa Ricker, were killed, while Savannah Webster, 13, was seriously injured when they were hit by the two trains.

The teens were reportedly nearly four miles up the canyon off of U.S. 6, taking photographs of the fall scenery in between two train tracks. One freight train reportedly came around a bend and began sounding its horn when the operator saw the girls in the tracks. At the same time, another train came from the opposite direction, causing the girls to become trapped in between the two moving trains.

The trains passed one another and hit the girls. Police believe it is possible both trains hit the girls.

Savannah Webster was rushed to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City where she is listed in extremely critical condition. Kelsea and Essa did not survive the train accident.

Investigations are underway.
