Construction Worker Injured in Structure Collapse at Mt. Blue High School

Farmington, ME — A construction accident on the campus of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington has left a worker with injuries, after falling from a scissor lift. The construction accident occurred Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2011, at about 3:30 p.m., reported the Morning Sentinel.

According to officials, the unidentified construction workers fell from a scissor lift when an under-construction support structure collapsed in the high school’s gymnasium. The worker was reportedly working on the series of steel support trusses for the building’s roof when 11 of the 17 structures fell.

Responding emergency crews rushed the injured worker by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for treatment of lacerations and bruises. He was released Wednesday afternoon.

The injured worker’s identity is being withheld at this time.

Investigations into the construction accident are underway. Engineers are reportedly assessing the collapse. It is unknown if investigators with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will report to the scene to conduct an investigation as well.

Portland based Wright-Ryan Construction Inc. is reportedly managing the project.
