Debate: Should Childhood Obesity be Considered Child Abuse?

08/31/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Personal Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Do I think severe childhood obesity is child abuse: Yes. Do I think the child should be taken away from their parents? No. The parents aren’t beating, neglecting or putting the child in immediate danger, instead they are making poor food and activity choices. Child Protective Services should step in and counsel the parent and child about healthy living decisions and put them on a weight loss plan; check in from time to time and if the problem continues the parents should be fined.
