Bexar County, TX — An industrial accident at an East Side freight trucking line killed a female employee Thursday night, July 14, 2011, when a crate fell on top of the worker. The fatal industrial accident occurred at Con-Way Freight in the 5600 block of East Houston Street, reported the San Antonio Express.

The Con-Way Freight employee was identified as 49-year-old Marissa Garcia, revealed the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

According to police officials, a forklift operator had just moved a 7-foot-tall, 1,500-pound crate from a tractor-trailer onto the loading dock floor, when the crate began to sway. The forklift operator yelled to warn Garcia about the wobbling crate, but she was unable to get out of the way before being pinned under the fallen crate.

Co-workers rushed to her aide, who used forklift to lift the crate, after trying to lift it manually.

Responding emergency crews rushed Garcia to Brooke Army Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead at 12:06 a.m., Friday morning.

Garcia sustained massive head trauma as a result of the industrial accident.

A full investigation is underway. Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct its own investigation.
