Marbletown, NY — A school bus crashed into a tree in Ulster County Wednesday morning, June 1, 2011, sending one child to the hospital and left several others with cuts and bruises. The school bus crash occurred just before 9 a.m. on Cooper Street in the Town of Marbletown, reported the Times Herald-Record.

According to police officials, the bus driver took his eyes off the road when a child in the back of the bus began yelling that another child was bleeding. When the driver took his eyes away from the road, the bus veered from the roadway and clipped a tree.

There were a total of 12 Marbletown Elementary School students aboard the bus when the accident occurred.

Six of the children were treated for minor cuts and bruises by the school nurse, while another child was taken to Kingston Hospital for treatment of back pain.

Investigations are underway.
