Worker Killed in St. Joseph Railcar Industrial Accident

St. Joseph, MO — A worker was killed in an industrial accident at Herzog’s railcar repair shop on Wednesday afternoon, May 18, 2011. The fatal industrial accident occurred around 1p.m., at the shop just off Easton Road on County Road 55, reported The Kansas City Star.

According to police officials, Robert V. Montgomery, 40, was working on a piece of a railcar, when a piece of equipment fell directly on him. It is unknown what caused the equipment to fall.

Responding emergency medical crews pronounced Montgomery dead at the scene.

Herzog workers reportedly perform maintenance on railcars, as well as custom work.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the fatal industrial accident.

Further details will be released pending the investigation’s completion.
