Airplane Hanger Collapse Injures Five Construction Workers at Dogwood Airport

Stafford County, VA — A construction accident at the Dogwood Airport injured five people when roof trusses collapsed on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. The construction accident occurred around 10:50 a.m., reported the Stafford County Sun.

According to Stafford County Fire and Rescue officials, workers were on a roof of a 50-foot by 60-foot airplane hanger when roof trusses on the hanger collapsed. Three construction workers on the roof and two workers on the ground were injured in the accident.

It is unknown what caused the trusses to collapse at this time.

Responding emergency crews rushed the injured construction workers to local hospitals for treatment. Officials reported that four people were critically injured and one sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident.

Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be arriving at the scene to conduct a full investigation.

Rescue crews from Falmouth, Brooke, White Oak, Stafford, the county fire chief and the Fire Marshal’s office all responded to the accident.
