SUV Ran Stop Sign, Crashed into Charlotte, NC School Bus; 8 Injured

Charlotte, NC — A sport utility vehicle apparently ran a stop sign and slammed into the back of a school bus, injuring eight people Tuesday morning, April 26, 2011. The automobile accident occurred just after 7 a.m. in the 4500 block of Wilkinson Boulevard, reported WBTV.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, bus No. 1696 was on its way to West Charlotte High school when a SUV appeared to have ran a stop sign and hit the back side of the school bus.

Responding emergency crews transported seven students to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, while the driver was taken to Presbyterian Main for treatment of injuries acquired in the wreck.

Those students who remained uninjured in the crash were taken to school on another bus.

Investigations are underway.
