Anderson, SC—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Baja Inc., dba as Baja Motorsports has voluntarily recalled about 4,300 dirt bikes for fire and burn hazards. The CPSC announced the product recall on March 9, 2011.

The product recall was issued after discovering that fuel can leak from the fuel tank, which poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

“This recall involves all model DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes with VIN numbers beginning with ‘L98.’ The model number and VIN are located on the product data plate, which is located on the side of the ‘goose neck’ (where the handle bars meet the body of the bike),” reported the CPSC press release.

Consumers are advised to contact Baja Motorsports to schedule a free repair.

The dirt bikes were sold at Pep Boys stores for between $550 and $650.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Baja Motorsports toll-free at (888) 863-2252 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit their website at www.bajamotorsports.com.
