Placentia, CA—A two-vehicle crash injured three children on Monday, January 24, 2011. The automobile accident occurred in the Valencia Avenue and Golden Avenue intersection at around 2:30 p.m., as reported by the OC Register.

Placentia police reported that it appeared a Toyota Sienna was traveling south on Valencia, when it made a left turn into the path of a Toyota Prius, which was headed northbound on Valencia. Preliminary investigations indicated that the Sienna struck that Prius, which caused the Prius to jump a curb and drive onto the sidewalk.

Officers believe four children were standing on the northeast corner of the intersection when the Prius jumped the curb and drove onto the sidewalk. The vehicle struck three of the children in doing so and trapped one child underneath the vehicle.

Responding emergency crews used airbags to lift the Prius off of a 12-year-old boy who was trapped underneath the car. The boy was rushed to UCI Medical Center’s trauma center in Orange for treatment.

Another 12-year-old victim was rushed to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and a 7-year-old was transported to Placentia-Linda Hospital in Placentia for treatment.

A fourth boy, age 11, was released to his parents.

The driver of the Prius, a 19-year-old woman, was rushed to Western Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

It is unknown if the driver of the Sienna was injured.

A full investigation is underway. No arrests were made.
