Sacramento, CA—A gun battle at a shopping center in south Sacramento left a woman dead and five others wounded on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. The shooting began at around 1 p.m., when two men entered a barber shop and began firing their guns, as reported by MSNBC.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Curran said two men were inside the barber shop, when two other men came in and started shooting. The men inside the barber shop were armed and returned gunfire, as the gun battle moved outside.

A 30-year-old woman was shot in the chest as she was loading her son into their Chevy Tahoe. “We believe she’s a totally innocent victim,” Curran said.

One suspect reportedly got into a white sedan and fled the scene, as the gun battle continued.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical crews. The boy remained uninjured in the shooting, and has since been placed under the care of child protective services.

Ambulances rushed four of the five men to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. One man was shot in the chest and was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. One of the barbers in the shop, a 37-year-old man, was shot in the ankle. Another man, age 28, was shot in the shoulder and leg. The fourth victim suffered a leg wound. The fifth man, a 39-year-old male, suffered a grazing wound.

The identities of the victims are currently being withheld.

No charges have been filed as of yet.

Several vehicles in the parking lot were damaged by the gunfire, including a Chinese restaurant, which is located across the street of the shopping center about 200 yards away.
