Calverton, NY– A former school teacher high on drugs and driving in the wrong direction on Route 25 caused a head-on collision, hospitalizing one person. The wrong-way crash occurred in Calverton on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at around 5 p.m., as reported by the Riverhead News-Review.

Police officials reported that they received reports of a Nissan Altima being driven recklessly on Route 25, which was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Just within moments of receiving the reports, the Nissan, driven by Ryan McCready, 26, of Miller Place, slammed head-on into two westbound vehicles. The impact of the crash caused a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee to veer into an embankment, while another vehicle, a 2006 Ford pickup truck, came to a stop in the westbound lane.

McCready was treated at the scene and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead after he was arrested. McCreedy was charged with a DWI, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of hypothermic needle.

McCready was fired last year from Southamptom schools, after two arrests for drunk driving and drugs.

Investigations are underway.
