Summit County, OH—Two high school students suffered various injuries after falling as many as 100 feet down a cliff in Bath Township, Ohio Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010. The teens were on a spiritual retreat at Camp Christopher when the accident occurred, as reported by WJW.

According to Fire Lieutenant George Seifert, “We believe they fell 80 to 100 feet down and where the fell was in the remote part of the camp,” noting that the cliff the sophomores were climbing was not an easy one to maneuver.

“The terrain is very rocky, not stable… There’s a lot of down rocks, tree branches, tree limbs, very mossy, very slippery,” Lt. Seifert said.

The teens, both 15-years-old, apparently lost their footing while attempting to hike up the cliff. Bath Police Chief Michael McNeely seemed to believe the Walsh Jesuit High School students free fell about 50 beet before hitting rough terrain. The teens then seemingly rolled the rest of the way down.

An unidentified person subsequently called 911, showing particular concern for one of the injured teenagers. “He’s waking up but he’s not really with it, he keeps passing out,” the caller said.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews rushed to Camp Christopher to aid the two boys who fell. One of the injured teens was airlifted to Akron General Hospital via Med Flight helicopter. He was listed in serious condition with undisclosed injuries.

The other boy suffered minor injuries. It was not clear if he required medical attention for his wounds.

Reports did not specify whether the teens were being supervised at the time.
