Wausau, WI—A motorcyclist suffered injuries when his bike collided with a car in downtown Wausau Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 2010. The driver of the car involved in the collision was cited for his failure to stop at a stop sign, which seemingly caused the accident, according to information provided by the Wausau Daily Herald.

Reports indicated 63-year-old George Goyke, of Rib Mountain was operating his car in the southbound lanes of Seventh Street when he ran a stop sign at Forest Street. Goyke’s vehicle then collided with a Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by 29-year-old Matt Mroczenski, of Weston.

The fiberglass cowling on Mroczenski’s bike was shattered on impact, subsequently sparking a fire in the engine area. The bike’s handlebars were also destroyed as Mroczenski was ejected from his motorcycle, over the car and onto the pavement.

While Mroczenski appeared to be conscious and alert at the scene, medical personnel rushed him to Aspirus Wausau Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Mroczenski was released from the medical center Tuesday night.

According to witness Bobette Helgeson, “It sounded like a gun or a cannon… And then I saw a big ball of fire.”

Though Goyke was obviously shaken by the collision, he did not sustain any injuries in the Wausau crash. Police cited him for failing to stop at the stop sign.
