Cleveland, OH—A member of a Russian acrobatic group performing with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus suffered injuries when he fell during a stunt Sunday afternoon, October 24, 2010. While Ringling Bros. would not release the injured performers identity or condition, a WJW report said the man struck the ground with his head and back.

The Asadullin Troupe, a Russian acrobatic group, was performing with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland when something went horribly wrong.

Reports indicated the circus performer launched off a teeterboard and was soaring through the air, with the intention of landing on top of a human pyramid, when he struck the ground instead.

Witness Janeen Beresh explained, “He did not move at all. He hit the ground and he was just flat, straight, I saw no movement.” Another gymnast then helped take the badly injured performer off stage as thousands of shocked audience members watched.

Nonetheless, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus stayed faithful to the age-old quote, “The show must go on.” However, while the three-ring performance continued, “The next group of performers flubbed up,” said Beresh.

“You could tell they were definitely shaken. And then the next performer fell and missed her cue, so you could clearly see that they knew something was going on and it was not good,” Beresh alleged.

According to the Ringling Bros. Web site, “Asadullin Troupe uses the teeterboard in ways most people would never dream. Known as the Pirates of the Teeterboard, the troupe uses the teeterboard as a launching plank where members of the troupe blast-off “flyers” who flip and somersault in the air, to then land on the top of human pyramids, created by the other members of their troupe.”

Donna Larkin, a spokesperson for Feld Entertainment, stated, “The performer was taken to a local hospital where is receiving the best possible care and we expect him to return to our circus family soon.”
