Nashville Tennessee personal injury: Man injured after apartment ceiling falls

Nashville, TN – A Tennessee man was injured Monday, June 28, 2010, after the ceiling of his apartment collapsed on him while he was taking a shower, as reported by WSMV.com.

Herman Bradford, wearing a bandage and neck brace, told reporters “All at once, something just hit me on the head.”

Bradford explained, “I’ve been dealing with that ceiling for six months now for them to get on it and fix it.”

This incident was one of many waiting to happen, according to residents at the Regency Villa. The complex has a steady history of Metro Codes apparently, with 11 requests for inspections over the past three years. Presently, three requests remain open, including one from Bradford.

Another tenant in the building told reporters mice were a constant problem, as was mold likely from the leaking bathroom in the unit above hers.

First Management took over the property in May, after the previous owners lost the complex to foreclosure. First Management said it was working to fix the problems as soon as possible.

Because all problems in the past were taken care of, no citations have been issued to the company.

Bradford filed his complaint a week prior to the falling ceiling incident, according to WSMV. Metro Codes, the organization responsible for inspecting buildings, stated complaints should typically be examined within a week or two.

The director of Codes explained the firm is re-inspecting all flood-damaged properties, which is delaying responses.
