Haverstraw New York motorcycle crash: One dead after bike hits car

Haverstraw, NY – A motorcyclist was killed on Route 9W in Haverstraw, NY, on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, as reported by The Journal News. The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m.

The Haverstraw crash happened in front of the Northern Riverview nursing home. The victim, 37 year-old Julio Montanez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police reports, Montanez was traveling south on Route 9W when his Yamaha motorcycle collided with two northbound cars.

Haverstraw firefighters were dispatched to the scene to provide lighting for the police to investigate. The Haverstraw Ambulance Corps was also at the crash site. Haverstraw police were also aided by the Clarkstown police accident investigation team.

Police are still trying to determine what caused the fatal accident.

No tickets were issued, as of Friday, July 2.

The accident came hours after an off-duty Ramapo police officer was hospitalized for injuries from a motorcycle crash. The officer was reportedly stable after undergoing surgery.

That motorcycle-vehicle collision happened in Wesley Hills.
