Philadelphia, PA – A North Philadelphia fire that took the life of a 55-year-old Cuban man has been deemed an arson case, as reported by the Philadelphia Enquirer. As was previously reported in the article “Philadelphia fire: North Philly man dies during rowhouse fire,” the blaze started at approximately 4:24 a.m., Tuesday June 29, 2010.

According to the Philadelphia fire department, the fire was intentionally set. An official at the department declined to give any further details of the case though, on account of the newly developed homicide case.

The man who suffered fatal injuries after falling off a ladder from his third-floor apartment was identified as Mario Herrara. Apart from the multiple fractures sustained from the fall, he suffered second- and third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body.

Herrara was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m. Tuesday.

He was described as “a beautiful person” who would “brighten up your day.”
