Product Safety Alert: Trendset Origionals, LLC recalls girls’ hooded jackets

Legal news for product liability attorneys – CPSC and Trendset Originals have issued a recall for Shampoo brand and Marci & Me brand girls’ jackets with drawstrings.

Jackets with drawstrings pose strangulation and entanglement hazards.

Washington, DC (www.NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, (CPSC) http://cpsc.gov, and Trendset Originals LLC, of New York, NY announced a voluntary recall of girls’ hooded jackets under the Shampoo and Marci & Me brand.

According to the press release from the CPSC, the hooded jackets were made with a drawstring through the hood, which may pose a strangulation risk to children. The sweater jackets contain a drawstring through the waist as well, which may pose an entanglement risk for those wearing them.

In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines, which later became part of the industry standard, to help prevent children from becoming entangled or strangled by drawstrings in upper garments.

As of the date of the press release, no injuries were reported.

The recall involves two styles of jackets.

The Shampoo brand jackets are blue denim with a pink hood and sleeves. They were sold in sizes 5/6, 7/8, 10/12 and 14/16.

The Marci & Me sweater jackets are black or tan and were sold in sizes 7/8, 10/12 and 14/16.

The neck tags were labeled “Shampoo” or “Marci & Me.”

The items retailed for approximately $11 and $13 and were sold exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide. They were manufactured in China and Bangladesh.

The CPSC and Trendset Originals LLC recommend immediately removing the drawstrings from the jackets. Those who purchased the products are also able to return the jackets to any Burlington Coat Factory store for a refund.
