Middle school student hospitalized after being struck by car while boarding bus.

Torrington, CT – A middle school student was struck by a reckless driver Monday, March 29, 2010, at approximately 7:35 a.m. while boarding a school bus, as reported by the Journal Register.

As reported by a representative at All Star Transportation, the bus company involved in the accident, a 13-year-old girl was struck by an oncoming vehicle that supposedly ignored the stop sign and red warning lights that were displayed on the bus.

The driver of the bus honked the horn in attempts to warn the child of the oncoming car.

The student was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital complaining of hip, ankle and wrist pain. Her name and condition have not been released.

A press release from the Torrington Police Department states that the driver of the car, Stephany Wilson, 30, of 330 Highland Ave., attempted to stop before hitting the girl, but was unable to stop because of the wet road. The release further states that police found Wilson’s vehicle to have bald tires and possibly faulty brakes.

The car was towed from the scene, not to be operated until a full inspection takes place.

Wilson faces charges of reckless driving, passing a stopped school bus and operating the vehicle without insurance. She is scheduled for arraignment on April 12, 2010.
