11-year-old boy accused of two Philadelphia “catch and wreck” incidents

Charges pressed for 11-year-old involved in vicious street game in PA.

Philadelphia, PA – Police have arrested and charged an 11-year-old boy in relation to the vicious street game called “catch and wreck” that has been plaguing Philadelphia residents, according to philly.com.

The boy was arrested at his family’s home at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010. He was taken to the Southwest Detective Division to be processed, according to Lt. John Walker.

He is being charged with aggravated assault, attempted robbery and other related offenses for two separate attacks, including a Friday March 19, 2010 attack on Belinda Moore at Finnegan Playground at Grovers Aenue and 69th. The other charge is for the attack on a man on March, 13, 2010. The victim remains in the hospital.

The game “catch and wreck” consists of children beating and robbing individuals they believe to be homeless. Police have already charged a 12-year-old girl. Belinda Moore, who is not homeless, was punched and hit with sticks by a group of children.

A spokeswoman for the District Attorney Seth Williams informed the press that the children are to be charged as juveniles and there names have not been released.
