Washington, DC – Tumi, of South Plainfield, NJ, along with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), http://www.cpsc.gov, announced on March 17, 2010, a voluntary recall of Mobile Power Packs. The chargers pose a fire threat. This hazard is only present for units that have not previously been charged. There have been two reports of consumers experiencing small fires during the initial charging. No injuries have been reported, as stated by the CPSC.

The power packs were manufactured in China and sold in Tumi retail stores, department and specialty stores nationwide and through www.Tumi.com from August 2007 to March 2008. The units retailed at $135.

The pack is black and silver and rectangular in shape. The front displays the word Tumi engraved on a silver button. The style number, 14362, is printed on the power pack packaging.

Tumi and the CPSC recommend contacting Tumi’s customer care department for instructions on how to return the power pack and receive a free placement power pack. Tumi advises those who have purchased the product and not charged it yet to avoid doing so. Those who have charged the product with no incident of fire may continue using it.
