OSHA fines Bozzuto’s Inc. $59K in fines for hazards at CT food distribution warehouse

Bridgeport, CT (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) www.osha.gov has cited Bozzuto’s Inc. for not maintaining a safe work environment for their employees at its food distribution warehouse in Cheshire, Connecticut. The company has been cited for 25 alleged violations of safety standards. Bozzuto’s Inc. now faces $58,750 in proposed fines.

When OSHA sent inspectors to investigate the warehouse, they found a number of potential injurious and hazardous situations for workers. Employees at the warehouse worked with electrical, mechanical and exit hazards that put them at risk for lacerations, electrocution, becoming caught in the machinery, or being prevented from exiting the building in the case of an emergency.

Kang Yi, OSHA’s acting area director in Bridgeport, stated that “It is imperative that the company take effective action to ensure that all such conditions are corrected and do not reoccur.”

There were many other findings that did not meet federal standards in the warehouse regarding procedures and potential dangers that could be life threatening for employees. OSHA cited Bozzuto’s Inc. for their work conditions through 20 serious citations and fines of $55,750. The company was also given five other serious violations with $3,000 of proposed fines for failing to keep accurate records of injury or illnesses.
