Yakima, WA—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov/ and Queseria Bendita of Yakima, has recalled three types of cheeses–Queso Fresco, Panela and Requeson– due to the possibility that the cheese is contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Queso Fresco cheese was sold in a one-and three-pound vacuum packed wheels; the Panela cheese was vacuum-sealed in one-and three-pound sizes; the Requeson was sold in eight-ounce and one-pound clear plastic tubes. There is a green label that identifies each type of cheese with the Queseria Bendita brand name and date codes, which includes “Apr 30 2010.” At this time there has been one confirmed illness in Washington related to these recalled products.

The recall was prompted after a public health investigation led to the discovery of the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. While the Washington State Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Queseria Bendita investigate the issue, all production and distribution of the product has been halted.
