Port St. Lucie, FL (News)—A man and his five children suffered injuries in a violent SUV rollover crash before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, on the Florida Turnpike. Reports state three of the children were not wearing their seat belts at the time and were subsequently ejected from the vehicle, according to information provided by WPBF.com.

According to authorities from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the sport utility vehicle, driven by Floyd Pitter, was traveling south on the Turnpike near the Port St. Lucie Boulevard exit when “the thread separated from the right rear tire, causing the SUV to flip several times”. As the SUV overturned, three of the five children occupying the vehicle were ejected.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews seemingly responded to the scene to transport three of the injured victims, including Pitter and two children to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center to be treated by doctors and nurses. The three remaining children were flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, via medical helicopter. Luckily, serious injuries acquired in the accident were not deemed to be life-threatening. Investigators allegedly reported that one of the vehicle’s front tires was indeed in need of a replacement and that the victims were lucky to have survived the incident.
