Queens, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A Toyota vehicle crashed into a religious temple in Queens on Monday, February 8, 2010, according to WPIX.
New York police (NYPD) reported to the scene where the Toyota vehicle slammed through the bushes on the sidewalk and finally smashed into the steps of the temple at the corner of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard. Witnesses reported hearing the vehicle’s engine revving repeatedly before it crashed, barely missing the bystanders on the steps.
Police reported that the driver of the vehicle was an elderly male driver, who sustained minor injuries. He reportedly told officials at the scene that his accelerator became stuck and he could not stop. Pieces of the Toyota decorated the steps of the temple. Luckily, the steps of the temple were not significantly damaged.
It was not reported if the elderly driver was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police continue to investigate the accident to determine if the crash was caused by the same defective accelerator pedals as the millions of vehicles involved in the recent Toyota recalls.
Toyota made a recent announcement that it has recalled 300,000 Prius hybrids due to a defective brake issue. New York City Mayor Bloomberg decided that all 2010 Toyota Priuses used as city vehicles should be removed from the roadways.
