Legal news for New York motor vehicle accident attorneys – New York State police report a Honda Accord became stuck under a moving tractor-trailer in a motor vehicle accident.
Howard, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A college student over-corrected on the highway and ended up being dragged underneath a tractor-trailer on Interstate 86 for 886 feet Sunday morning, February 7, 2010, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.
The 20-year-old Houghton College student, Vijay Virmani, resident of Ramsey, New Jersey, was reportedly driving in his 1998 Honda Accord, when it hit the rumble strip on the side of the highway and over-corrected. His car was launched underneath a semi truck in the eastbound lanes around 8:20 a.m.
The semi truck driver was oblivious to the fact that a car was lodged underneath his truck and had become pinned by the rear tires while it was still traveling down the road. Another semi truck driver following behind radioed the trucker and alerted him to what was happening beneath his trailer. The trucker, identified as 47-year-old Robert Cartwright, still with the car we dragged beneath it, slowed down gradually and finally came to a halt.
New York State police and the Hornell Fire Department reported to the scene where the Virmani had been in the completely totaled Honda. Miraculously, Virmani only sustained minor injuries in the incident. He was taken via ambulance to be examined and treated to St. James Hospital. Responding police cited Virmani for an unsafe lane change. Both lanes of I-86 were closed for an hour after the incident.
