Legal news for New York product liability attorneys – Wind Chime toys recalled for laceration and puncture hazard for babies.
New York, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov along with Health Canada has announced the voluntary recall of Tiny Love Inc. and the Maya Group Inc. “Wind Chime Toys” February 10, 2010.
The company and the CPSC urged that all consumers who have purchased these China-manufactured Wind Chime Toys should discontinue use of the defective product immediately. There were about 600,000 Wind Chime Toys distributed and sold across the nation and 200,000 sold in Canada. The reason for the recall is that the wind chimes may present a health hazard when the toy chimes are pulled apart, which exposed sharp metal rods. This could pose a puncture and laceration risk for a small child playing with the toy.
There have been five reports of babies pulling apart the chime and exposing the sharp metal rods. There was one incident reported where one baby punctured his cheek with the metal rods. The toys were distributed out of Tiny Love Inc. based out of New York and the Maya Group Inc based out of California. The wind chime had the words “Tiny Love” printed on the tag of the toy. The wind chime toys were sold separately along with the tiny marts Gift Sets and Gymini Kick and Play Activity Gym. They were sold at Walmart, Toy-R-Us, Target, Buy Buy Baby, and TJ Maxx across the U.S. from February 2002 to February 2010 for $8.
The wind chimes sold with the Gym sets are not included with in this recall. Consumers may contact Tiny Love Inc. for a free toy to replace the broken one. Contact the company at (888) 791-8166 Monday through Friday during normal business hours, or online at www.tinylove.com.
