Jacksonville, FL—An evening boat ride turned into an evening boat crash on Tuesday, January 28, 2010, leaving a father and son seriously injured in the incident. The wreck reportedly occurred on Pottsburg Creek after dark, according to information provided by News4Jax.com.

Thirty-five year old Wayne Lipscomb reportedly took his 4-year-old son, Ty Lipscomb and two other adults on a boat ride, but soon realized conditions were too dark to enable safe boating. Upon turning the boat around, Lipscomb seemingly had a difficult time navigating the Creek in the dark, even though they were reported near the dock from which they departed. Accident reports allegedly stated, “It was so dark that things looked entirely different”. He consequently struck a dock situated at a bend in the river going approximately 20 miles per hour. The impact reportedly broke the windshield after becoming partially submerged under the dock, located in the 500 block of Bayridge Road.

The seriously injured father and son were reportedly transported to Shands HealthCare to be treated by responding doctors and nurses. Deputies allegedly reported that the victims might need facial surgeries as a result of the incident. Injuries were reported non-life threatening. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials were on the scene to investigate the boat crash.
