Seattle, WA—Starbucks Coffee Company has participated in the voluntary recall of Glass Water Bottles due to the laceration hazard they may pose to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada (HC) announced the recall on Thursday, January 28, 2010.

Seattle, Washington-based Starbucks Coffee Company has recalled 11,000 glass water bottles in the United States as well as 1,200 in Canada. It was reported, “The glass water bottle and/or its stopper can shatter when the consumer is removing or inserting the stopper, posing a laceration hazard to consumers”. The firm has allegedly received a total of 10 reports of the glass bottles shattering as of yet. Of these reported instances, eight resulted in hand lacerations.

The recalled product is described as a 20-ounce bottle containing a blue label with the words “Glass Water Bottle” on it. The SKU number 11003503 is marked on the labeling of the bottle. These glass water bottles were sold for approximately $9 a piece in Starbucks company-operated stores as well as in Starbucks locations within Safeway and Target stores. The bottles, manufactured in Taiwan, were sold nationwide during January 2010.

Consumers are urged to discontinue use of the glass water bottles and return them to the Starbucks location of purchase for a full reimbursement. Upon returning the recalled bottles, consumers will be granted a complimentary beverage of any size. Starbucks may be contacted at (877) 492-6333, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
