Pier 1 Imports recalls product due to fire hazard.

Fort Worth, TX—Pier 1 Imports, Inc. has participated in the voluntary recall of Ceramic Santa Tea Light Holders due to a fire hazard they may pose, according to information provided by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada. The recall was announced on Thursday, January 14, 2010.

The CPSC reported that approximately 67,000 Ceramic Santa Tea Light Holders, 61,500 in the United States and 5,500 in Canada, have been recalled after it was discovered that the tea light holders could catch fire if they come into direct contact with the tea lights, creating a fire risk for consumers. There have allegedly been three reports of these tea light holders burning after a tea light was placed inside them, though no injuries have been reported to the firm.

The red and white tea light holders were reportedly “designed in the image of Santa Claus” and are 7½ inches tall and 3½ inches wide. The back of the tea light holder opens so a tea light may be placed inside. A label containing the products SKU number, 2417274, is located at the bottom of these tea light holders. The product, which was manufactured in China, was being sold in Pier 1 Imports retail stores in the U.S. and Canada from September 2009 to December 2009 for approximately $10. Consumers are being urged to stop using Ceramic Santa Tea Light Holders. They may be returned to Pier 1 Imports stores for a full refund or merchandise credit.
