31 people treated after Ohio school bus crash

Ohio State Highway Patrol alerts Ohio automobile accident lawyers- A school bus crash injured 31 people, after a car ran a stop sign.

Paulding, OH—A two-vehicle crash involving a Defiance City Schools bus, sent four people to the hospital on Saturday morning, January 3, 2010. The crash occurred around 7:40 a.m., at the intersection of Ohio 637 and County Road 138, when one of the vehicles failed to stop at a stop sign, as reported by Crescent-News.com.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported, that a southbound school bus traveling on Ohio 637 was transporting two coaches and 26 Defiance Junior High wrestling team members, when it was struck on the right side by eastbound vehicle that was traveling on County Road 138, and failed to yield a stop sign. The driver of the school bus, Keith Ashbacher, 55, of Defiance, sustained injuries in the collision and was transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Defiance Regional Medical Center, where he was treated by doctors and released. One of the wrestling coaches, Matthew Dietrich, 36, of Napoleon was taken by EMS crews to Paulding Hospital, and was also treated and released. The other coach and the wrestling team was treated at the scene of the crash by responding medical professionals. The driver of the vehicle, Jan Werhal, 50, was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of her injuries by doctors and nurses. A passenger in Werhal’s vehicle, Jonathon Steingass, 21, of Paulding, was taken to Paulding County Hospital where he was treated and released. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Paulding Fire Department, Paulding and Oakwood EMS and Samaritan Air Ambulance all responded to the two-vehicle crash. An investigation is currently underway. It is unknown if any charges were filed in connection with the wreck.
