Former New York police officer injured in collision

Scarsdale, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A two-vehicle crash occurred when an off-duty Westchester County police officer ran a red light and struck a police cruiser, December 27, 2009, according to The Journal News.

A motor vehicle accident in a Scarsdale occurred when a Chevy pickup truck collided with a police cruiser at the intersection of Parkway and Popham Road. Police and emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to investigate and assist. The off-duty Westchester police officer was driving in his Chevy pickup truck. He reportedly told police that he had drank two to three beers before the accident. Emergency responders had to extricate the injured officer from her police vehicle. She sustained facial and back injuries.

Police identified the off-duty officer as Joseph Kraus, who refused to take a breathalyzer test after the 1 a.m. crash. The officer in the Scarsdale police cruiser was Officer Jessica Knatz, a former New York Police officer, who was transported to Westchester Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The police cruiser was impounded after the crash. Police continue to investigate the accident.
