Merrimack Valley, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Collisions involving 20 motor vehicles occurred when six separate accidents were reported during Monday morning commute throughout the Merrimack Valley in a two-hour period, December 21, 2009, announced the Eagle-Tribune.
The first 2-car collision took place in the southbound lanes of I-93, where no one was reported injured and police witnessed the driver’s transaction of information. Just 10 minutes later, a seven-car crash was reported on I-93 in the southbound lanes. There were two reported injuries. Cleanup crews were called to the scene to take care of the wreckage. The two injured individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment and four of the vehicles were carted away by tow trucks.
Police reported that the pileup began in the left lane when one vehicle slammed into the back of another and four vehicles ended up on the median while three more vehicles ended up in the break down lane. There were a reported six passenger vehicles, a truck and a trailer. The highway was temporarily shut down. Police continue to probe the crash.
While that accident was still being cleaned up, a four-vehicle crash occurred on I-93 in the northbound lanes. No injuries were reported, but charges were filed against one of the drivers for the accident. Police identified some of the people involved in the wreck. Three of the people involved were 63-year-old Diane Dergola, of Cambridge, 22-year-old Stacey Blair, of Tewksbury, and 41-year-old Mehdi Arya, of Reading.
The operator of the 2000 International truck, 40-year-old James Wright, was cited for leaving the scene and reckless driving. There were three more two-vehicle collisions on I-495, in which there were no injuries reported.
