Springfield, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A two-vehicle crash fatally injured one man from Longmeadow Sunday morning, December 20, 2009, announced the Republican.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 91 were closed off from traffic for four hours due to the fatal crash. Police and emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene of the accident that occurred at 11:30 a.m.

Police officials reported that 29-year-old David Patterson was tragically killed upon impact in the crash and was declared dead at the scene. EMS transported the second driver, identified as 19-year-old Jareb Gleckel, resident of New York, to Baystate Medical Center where doctors and nurses treated him for minor injuries.

Police reported that crash occurred when Patterson, in his 2005 Nissan Murano, rear-ended Gleckel, who was operating a 1993 Toyota Camry, near exit 12. The force of the crash propelled Greckel off the road into an embankment where he struck a bridge abutment of the Interstate 391 overpass. The Toyota came to a halt after striking a concrete barrier.

Police reports stated that speed was a correlating factor in the wreck. It was not reported if charges were filed.
