800,000 H1N1 vaccines of children’s swine flu vaccine recalled

Legal news for New York Product Liability attorneys— H1N1 children’s vaccine recalled due to potency issues.

New York, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Center for Disease Control (CDC) www.cdc.gov recommended that parents may have to re-vaccinate their young children with a second dose of the H1N1 vaccine due to a recall of 800,000 pre-filled syringes that may have lacked the potency to fight the virus, December, 15, 2009, announced the New York Daily News.

Health officials were unaware how many doses have already been given to children. CDC officials advised parents not to panic and that nothing had to be done, unless it was recommended by a medical official to get a second vaccination.

CDC authorities notified doctors that the recall involved syringes of the H1N1 vaccine for ages 6 months to 3 years old. CDC spokesperson states that “they are reaching out to these clinicians and providers to tell them if they have vaccine around from these lots, don’t use it”. “Most of this vaccine probably has already been used.”

Health authorities reported that the vaccinations potency waned after the potency tests had already been administered. Medical officials stated that they believed the recall was due to the manner in which the vaccines were rushed to market.

Chairman of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) committee on infectious diseases, Dr. Joseph Bocchini, said that parents do not need to be worried and the children do not need another dose since the fist vaccination would have induced a good immune system. Other doctors are telling their patients to just get the vaccine again.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has advised parents and caregivers to vaccinate their children under the age of 9 again a month after their initial vaccination date.
