Woman injured after purse gets lodged in subway doors

Legal news for Massachusetts Personal Injury attorneys—Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority probes a distressed woman whose purse was stuck in subway doors.

Boston, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A woman was attempting to board a subway train when the doors quickly slammed shut and clamped her purse inside the train last month, announced by NewsOne, December 8, 2009.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) officials are investigating the accident in which the woman suffered injury when she was slammed into a wall as the subway train took off with her purse.

Surveillance cameras captured the horrific event of the woman trying to keep up with increasing speed of the train to free her purse from the clinched doors. The train attendant had given the “all clear” sign, even though the woman was quickly trying to remove the purse from the closed doors when the train began to move.

The distressed woman and her brother were seen on the video both attempting to open the doors in a panic. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the unidentified woman to be treated at a local hospital for injuries including a bloody nose and a contusion on her head.

Authorities reported that the subway attendant on duty at the time of the incident was subsequently let go from his job. The operator of the train during the unfortunate occurrence underwent a 10 day suspension for the actions taken when the woman’s purse became wedged in the doors. The victim allegedly plans to take legal action in this case and has hired an attorney since the accident.
