Long Island teenager fatally injured in truck crash

Huntington, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A tragic car wreck claimed the life of a teenage boy who was fatally injured when his vehicle struck a flatbed truck on Monday, November 30, 2009, according to the Long Island Press.

Suffolk County police reported to the scene of the accident where 19-year-old Scott Mazzio drove his Pontiac Grand Prix into a parked truck off of Warner Road. The teen driver was traveling with a female passenger who sustained injuries in the crash.

Emergency medical services (EMS) reported to the scene in the eastbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike around 2:30 p.m. Police reported that the Mazzio had lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons. The flatbed truck was unoccupied at the time when the teens crashed into it.

EMS rushed Mazzio to Huntington Hospital where doctors and nurses attempted to save him, but his injuries proved fatal. Suffolk county police officials identified his female passenger as 19-year-old Sarah Triola. She was also transported to Huntington Hospital where she was reported to be in serious condition. Police possessed the Pontiac to perform a routine safety examination. The owner of the flatbed truck was given two citations for equipment violations.
