Lancaster, SC—A church van and a pickup truck collided on Saturday afternoon, November 21, 2009, which left the pastor dead and six other people injured. The van was attempting to avoid debris in the roadway when the van veered into the path of an oncoming truck on S.C. 903 east of Lancaster, around 4:20 p.m., as reported by the Gaston Gazette.

The pastor of the South Point Free-Will Baptist Church and six other people were coming home from an annual men’s golf retreat in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when the van swerved to avoid hitting a tire that came off another vehicle and slammed into an oncoming pickup truck. Reverend Ronnie Wilson was killed on impact. Six passengers were injured the crash and were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the pickup truck and passenger were ejected from the truck upon impact. Both the driver and the passenger reportedly were not wearing a seatbelt at the time. They were both airlifted Carolinas Medical Center for treatment by doctors and nurses. The South Carolina Highway Patrol are reportedly conducting a full investigation into the fatal two-vehicle wreck.
