NYPD car collision near Biden motorcade in Manhattan injures 4

Manhattan, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A New York police squad car (NYPD) driving ahead of US Vice President Joe Biden’s motorcade struck another car in mid-town Manhattan Tuesday, November 17, 2009, injuring four people, city police said.

New York Department Lieutenant reported that three NYPD cruisers with their lights and sirens flashing were headed west on West 49th Street, when one of the squad cars struck a Lincoln Town Car around 5:00 p.m.

Police were to escort Vice President, Joe Biden’s motorcade, several minutes before the crash. Two police officers and two people in the Lincoln Town Car sustained injuries in the wreck.

Their injuries were not specified. It was not reported if they required medical attention. Vice President Biden was en route to a taping of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart, where he said that he had a nice welcome to New York, as the street was cleared ahead of his motorcade as a warm welcome. He also said that he had never driven in New York without any traffic before. This traffic crash involving the vice president’s motorcade is the third in the past week.
